“The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald
This classic American novel portrays the rich and indulgent society of the roaring 20s as well as the gross and tragic aftermath. This book is incredible.

“One Hundred Years of Solitude” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
A world famous, 7 generational family saga. This book is straight from the magical realism movement in Latin American Lit, and it is q bit. I found it heavy with sensual and distasteful content. It was fine. Interesting, but I don’t get all the hype.

“Light the Stars” by Nicholas Sparks
This book is about a man named Wade Dalton. He is a widower with 3 small children, trying to juggle running the family ranch and raising 3 kids on his own. His mother Marjorie has moved in to help with the children since Wade’s wife died, and he couldn’t handle things without her. Wade wakes up one morning to find a letter from his mom announcing that she has eloped with a man she has been dating, on the internet, and she’ll be home in a week. Wade is left wondering what his mother is thinking, and how he is supposed to handle everything without her. Then Caroline Montgomery comes into his life. She showed up on Wade’s door step, looking for her father, who is the man that eloped with Marjorie. Feeling bad for the mess that her father has caused, she decides to stay on the Ranch for the week to help Wade with the kids. Although Wade is reluctant to let her stay and help him, he has no choice. Little does he know, that she will find a way into his heart in the short week she spends with him and his kids. This is a great contemporary romance.
